Co-operation

FKIE has outstanding co-operations with the chair for ergonomics at the RWTH Aachen (Professor C. Schlick), and with the University of Bonn, Institute of Computer Science, Department III, Applied Computer Science (Prof. A. B. Cremers) and Department IV, Communication and Distributed Systems (Prof. P. Martini)

These co-operations are arranged by special co-operation contracts between the universities and FGAN. In addition, Prof. Schlick has the scientific responsibility for the scope of Ergonomics in our institute.

Many more cooperations with universities are carried out with an intensive information exchange by appropriate contacts (visits, discussions at conferences, exchange of research results etc.) and especially by joint research projects.

Examples for joint projects in close cooperation with universities are:

  • University of Bonn (Institute of Computer Science: robotics, communication; Institute of Communication Science: computer linguistics; Kekulé Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry: gas sensors)
  • RTWH Aachen (Institute for Integrated Signal Processing Systems)
  • FU Berlin (speech processing)
  • TU Ilmenau (portable radio locating method)
  • Sporthochschule Cologne (impact investigations)
  • FH Cologne (IT security, communication technology)
  • FH Rhein-Sieg (assistance systems)
In addition, several scientists of the institute give lectures at many universities.

The FKIE co-operates in a wide spectrum with other national and international research establishments. Temporary exchanges of scientists with other research institutes are organized.

The integration of the institute in the international research-oriented organizations of NATO and European Union is of high importance for us. Accordingly, we are intensively engaged in these organizations. This is also our scientific forum. The R&T tasks of NATO are planned and conducted primarily within the RTO (Research and Technology organization).

In addition, we cooperate with numerous industrial partners.
